Frenzy of NFL signings to start Tuesday (AP)

Now that the lockout is done, the next challenge facing NFL teams, players and agents is pretty tough, too. There are about 1,000 veterans, draft picks and undrafted rookies that need to be signed by the 32 clubs. Each contract must fit the boundaries of the new, still-being-understood labor deal, such as each club's cumulative payroll being within the new salary cap.

Eric Hosmer doubled to lead off the 14th inning and scored when Mike Aviles bunted the ball over the head of charging first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, giving the Kansas City Royals a 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Louis Coleman (1-2) went two innings and twice pitched out of jams for the win.

James McDonald and the Pittsburgh Pirates keep finding ways to win. McDonald struck out a career-high nine in 5 1-3 scoreless innings and the Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 on Monday night to keep pace in the tight NL Central race. The Pirates are tied with St. Louis for first place in the division, a half-game ahead of Milwaukee, which was off.

The Cleveland Indians' slogan throughout a season of improbable comeback wins has been "What If?" Rookie Jason Kipnis added a new twist Monday night: "Why not?" That's what Kipnis thought as he came to bat with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning, before delivering his first career hit to give Cleveland a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Three in the first, three in the second, three in the third -- and then the Texas Rangers really got going. By the time they stopped they had the biggest offensive night in baseball this season and accomplished a feat only done two other times in the last 111 years en route to a 20-6 defeat of the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

Mark Buehrle overcame some shaky defense and kept the Chicago White Sox close early in the game Monday night. Neither rattled nor perturbed by two popups that weren't caught, Buehrle hung around for six innings and the Chicago White Sox got a pair of key two-out hits in the fifth inning and solo homers from Paul Konerko and A.J.
