CC Sabathia finally snapped out of his Red Sox funk, and it took an extra effort to do it. The big Yankees left-hander struck out 10 on Tuesday night, throwing a season-high 128 pitches in six innings to beat Boston for the first time in five tries and lead New York to a 5-2 victory. The Yankees improved to 3-13 this season against the Red Sox, who still lead the AL East by one-half game.

Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya says he has contemplated suicide and has been going to rehabilitation to treat drug and alcohol dependency. In an interview with Spanish-language network Univision that aired Tuesday, De La Hoya said he has been sober for three months after hitting rock bottom over the past two years.

Tim Lincecum reached a new low this season and so did the San Francisco Giants' offense. At this rate, the defending World Series champions are going to need an incredible September to avoid missing the postseason altogether.
