For Sacramento fans, just seeing their Kings on the court was a victory after all the talk of moving at the end of last season. Beating the hated Los Angeles Lakers in the season opener only made it sweeter. Marcus Thornton scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Kings beat the Lakers at home for the first time in more than three years, 100-91 on Monday night.

After Drew Brees broke an NFL passing record that stood for nearly three decades, his teammates called on him to make a speech in the Saints' locker room. "This record isn't about one person. There might be just one name that goes in ledger under the record, but it's really about the team," Brees told his teammates.

Drew Brees has broken the NFL record for yards passing in a season, surpassing a mark that had stood since Dan Marino set it in 1984. Brees topped Marino's record of 5,084 yards with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Brees entered the game with 4,780 yards, needing 305 to set the record.
