Clowe's shootout goal helps Sharks get by Pens Posted: 04 Nov 2011 12:04 AM PDT SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Even a two-goal comeback and shootout win couldn't hide San Jose coach Todd McLellan's frustration over a listless start that nearly cost his team the game. |
Michael McCann: Decertification would put 2011-12 season in serious jeopardy Posted: 03 Nov 2011 11:00 PM PDT With NBA labor talks stalled, players are mulling decertification. What's the effect of such a move? How would players fare in antitrust litigation? Michael McCann provides the answers. |
Preds' Rinne gets $49M contract, shutout (AP) Posted: 03 Nov 2011 10:30 PM PDT Pekka Rinne celebrated his 29th birthday by signing the richest contract in Nashville's history. He capped the day by blowing out the candles on the Phoenix Coyotes. Putting all the early-in-the-day distractions behind him, Rinne stopped 35 shots for his third shutout of the season to lift the Predators to a 3-0 win over the Coyotes on Thursday night. |
Iginla nets 2 as Wings' skid reaches 6 (AP) Posted: 03 Nov 2011 08:07 PM PDT With a pair of sharp one-timers, Jarome Iginla extended Detroit's early-season funk. The Calgary captain scored twice Thursday night, and the Flames beat the slumping Red Wings 4-1. Detroit has lost six straight (0-5-1) after winning its first five. The Red Wings held Calgary to 22 shots but managed only Danny Cleary's second-period goal off a strange bounce. |

The storylines, stars to watch in LSU-Bama Posted: 03 Nov 2011 01:37 PM PDT LSU and Alabama have topped the last five AP polls as the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the nation. On Saturday night, they get to duke it out in the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 regular-season matchup in five seasons in college football's consensus Game of the Year. The two teams are eerily similar across the board, from stifling defenses to run-first offenses to week-after-week blowouts, and they'll finally share a field with the nation watching. CBS had to tweak its contract with the SEC to move the game to prime time, and 600 credentialed media are expected to be in attendance (up from Alabama's normal contingent of 350). Tickets in 101,821-seat Bryant-Denny Stadium are in the $500-600 range online and Alabama security is expecting an additional 40,000-50,000 fans to show up in Tuscaloosa without tickets. How big is this one? The Nick-Saban-used-to-coach-at-LSU storyline is barely a blip on the radar. |
Steelers, rival Ravens ready for Round 2 Posted: 03 Nov 2011 10:16 PM PDT It's a blood feud pitting No. 1 against No. 2. No, it's not Saturday night's showdown between first-ranked LSU and second-ranked Alabama. |

From backup to the SEC's most efficient QB Posted: 03 Nov 2011 01:34 PM PDT Jarrett Lee lost his job, but not his focus. Given another chance to start, the quarterback's marked improvement is one of the reasons top-ranked LSU is thriving, writes Stewart Mandel. |
