From KU to VCU, South region wide open Posted: 17 Mar 2013 08:52 PM PDT How much parity is there this year? At some point in the past three weeks, any of the top three seeds in this region would have been plausible No. 1 seeds. Kansas, Georgetown and Florida all could have made convincing arguments down the stretch, but the Jayhawks made the best one. They finished the strongest, winning seven of their last eight in the regular season and winning their three Big 12 tournament games by a combined 59 points. |

Louisville, Indiana top championship hierarchy as the Big Dance looms Posted: 17 Mar 2013 07:57 PM PDT As No. 1 team after No. 1 team fell this season, and court-stormings became a weekly rite of passage, the sentiment that "this year's NCAA tournament will be wide-open" was repeated ad nauseam. In the sense that there's no runaway favorite -- like the Kentucky Death Star was last March -- then yes, this tournament is more open than 2012's. But with the bracket finally in hand, I didn't see eight or 10 or 12 viable national title picks. I saw three. This is how I sorted out a championship hierarchy from all the regular-season noise: This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Reigning champion Kentucky left out of NCAAs Posted: 18 Mar 2013 12:14 AM PDT Kentucky's inconsistent play this year has left the Wildcats without a chance to defend their national championship. |
