SI's Daily Olympic Briefing -- July 28 Posted: 27 Jul 2012 09:24 PM PDT LONDON -- It is the best rivalry swimming has ever seen, a duo of stylistically opposite athletes who have at least one thing in common: speed. Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps will compete today in the men's 400 individual medley, the first of two mega head-to-head races (the other in the 200 IM) at the London Olympics. On the first day of competition, medals will be handed out in seven sports: archery, fencing, judo, road cycling, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. It promises to be a thrilling day, featuring the Lochte-Phelps duel in the pool, and Great Britain likely winning its first medal of the games in the men's cycling road race. |
